Vehicle Description

1963 36-ft Chris Craft Roamer – Very Rare Boat

Yep, one of the rare ones is up for sale. My project is coming to a premature end due to a change of jobs. Hull is done. Interior is done. Motors are done…. Etc etc… 1 of only 2 36-ft steel soft-tops this year left in existence.

Very rare 1963 Roamer soft top. Steel. Recent survey (July 2008).

Great Lakes boat until 4 years ago. Now in (mostly fresh) brackish water in upper Potomac.

Runs and drives great. Just had a lot of welding done on the hull. All bad spots removed and replated. New custom rudder boxes (Stainless Steel) and newly rebuilt rudders. New barrier coating on exposed steel and 3 coats of Micron CSC on entire hull. New props.

- 1986 350 Crusaders. Rebuilt in 1996 (154 hours since then). Run like new.
- Rebuilt Velvet Drives (2.91 to 1)
- New high-end 4-flush head, new tank, plumbing and macerator. Ultra quiet head with 4 flushing options.
- Newer 16,500btu Heat/AC.
- New bilge pumps and alarms
- Original Onan 4kw generator
- Entire interior gutted, stripped to bare wood and refinished with 6 coats of high gloss Captains.
- Great carpeting and upholstery. Interior is very nice!
- Head compartment has been gone thru when new head installed.
- Water system is pressurized and has a nice filtration system.
- New zincs. Sitting at a near perfect -.950 reading.
- Hull sides and transom freshly painted (3 months ago). New blue striping, etc.
- All wood rot was removed and wood from a 1962 Roamer was used for replacement. VERY solid. New glass was installed at that time (had 2 broken windows when I bought it)
- Forward cockpit, rails, mast and helm all stripped and 6 coats of high gloss Flagship applied.
- Covered moorage since I took on this project.

- Comes with full safety gear, lines, fenders, etc.
- New gauge cluster, spare parts, camper canvas (needs to be re-installed).

- Comes with chairs, several covers (steering wheel, front cabin glass).

Great boat!!

Now the bad:

- No electronics. Someone decided on a recent cruise that they liked my GPS more then I did.

- Inside of the hull needs to be preserved. Only minor surface rust. All cancer was cut out and replaced in the hul

- One small soft spot on one of the engine hatches. Can be repaired from bottom, or replaced easily.

- Needs trim installed (comes with boat and is already varnished).

- Small areas of surface rust on upper deck. No cancer.

- Only needs paint and varnish in a few areas (most notably the deckhouse, toe rails and aft cockpit areas).

Survey available (July 2008). Most all parts needed for items hit are included in sale. Survey had an ultra sound conducted on hull. All areas more then 15% degraded were cut out and replaced. Survey gave boat a clean bill of health.

Survey put the fair market value on this boat at $16,500 before the hull work was completed.

This is a great usable project that only needs cosmetics to finish. All the expensive items have been taken care of.
